Nursing Turnover Trends in Nursing Homes/CCRCs

Oakland, NJ, September 2021--Nursing Homes saw higher turnover rates for RNs, LPNS, and CNAs in 2021 than those in CCRCs, according to the 2021-2022 Nursing Home Salary & Benefits Report and the 2021-2022 CCRC Salary & Benefits Report, published by Hospital & Healthcare Compensation Service (HCS).

The 2021 turnover rate for CCRC RNs was 40.45%; the 2021 turnover for Nursing Home RNs was 41.06%. The 2021 turnover rate for CCRC LPNs was 36.81%; the 2021 turnover for Nursing Home LPNs was 37.67%. Nursing Home CNAs saw the highest increase. CCRC CNAs turnover was 45.87% while Nursing Home CNA turnover was 51.38%.

545 CCRCs participated in the CCRC Report and provided compensation data on 81,200+ employees. 71.93% of study participants were not-for-profit facilities, with 50.25% of respondents religiously affiliated. 1,613 nursing homes participated in the Nursing Home Report and provided data on 147,900+ employees. 40.05% of study participants were not-for-profit facilities, while 59.95% were for-profit facilities. Both studies report salary/hourly data according to profit type, revenue size, bed-size, region, state, and CBSA. The Reports also include 19 fringe benefits, turnover rates by department, and projected salary increases by department. The effective date of data for the studies is March 2021.
