2016 - 2017 Hospital Salary & Benefits Report

The hourly rate of Social Workers (MSWs) in hospitals increased 1.94% in 2016, according to the 2016-2017 Hospital Salary & Benefits Report, just published by Hospital & Healthcare Compensation Service (HCS).  Comparatively, the hourly rate of BSWs increased 1.23%. 

The hourly rates for MSWs ranged from an average of $33.41 in hospitals with less than 200 beds; $33.76 in hospitals with 200-499 beds; and an average of $33.69 for those with 500 beds or greater. 

BSWs received an hourly average rate of $30.21 in for-profit hospitals compared to an average of $24.31 in not-for-profit hospitals.

Highlights of the Report include:

  • 443 participants reporting on over 71,400+ employees

  • 200+ positions, including corporate, management, nursing, rehab, dietary, and technical

  • Data reported by bed-size, profit type, revenue, region, and state

  • Percentile reported: 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th, 90th and average

  • Fringe benefits, shift data, turnover rates and planned increases

Data are effective as of May 2016.  The complete Report is available as a hard copy or PDF for $390 from HCS.  The salary/hourly data Report results in Excel may be purchased in addition to the published Report for $300.
