Homecare Salary & Benefits Study Reveals Increases in OT & PT Base Pay

Oakland, NJ, October 2009 --The national average hourly rate of home health Occupational Therapists (OTs) increased 3.70% to $32.94, according to the 19th annual HOMECARE Salary & Benefits Report, just published by Hospital & Healthcare Compensation Service (HCS).  The national average hourly rate for home health Physical Therapists (PTs) increased 3.08% to $36.61.  The increase represents agencies that participated in both the 2008 and 2009 compensation studies.

The annual turnover rate reported for OTs decreased from the 2008 figure of 31.77% to 22.40%.  The annual turnover rate for PTs also decreased, going from 20.02% in 2008 to 19.35% in 2009. 

Average caseload for OT positions averaged 16.37 in 2009, compared to 16.61 in 2008.  Physical Therapist caseload also slightly decreased from 20.03 patients to 19.08.  (Average caseload represents the average number of patients assigned to a particular employee at any given time.  The data reported above refer to caseload, not case management.)

1,709 home care agencies and hospices participated in the study and provided compensation data on more than 68,277 employees nationwide.  The complete 276-page Report contains 66 jobs reporting on salaries, bonuses, and hourly & per visit rates.  Data are reported by state, county, nine geographic regions, nationally, and according to agency type and revenue size.  Also included are 22 fringe benefits, planned percent increases, turnover rates, and personnel policies.
